How often should an air conditioner near the lake be cleaned?
Once a year, ideally before the cooling season starts. Dirt and debris build up on the outdoor coil, and a dirty coil cuts cooling capacity and makes the system run longer. A rinse and a coil inspection each spring is the cheapest thing you can do.
My furnace shuts off during heavy snow. Why?
If you have a high efficiency furnace, the intake and exhaust pipes usually exit through a side wall about a foot or two above grade. Drifting snow blocks them and the pressure switch shuts the furnace down on purpose. Clearing the pipes often restores heat within minutes.
