HVAC and Plumbing Service in Bedford, Ohio

Tinkers Creek cuts below the south end of Bedford, and the streets above it include the Bedford Historic District around Public Square, where the Hezekiah Dunham House was built in 1832. Raber HVAC keeps the older homes on those streets running. We repair furnaces and boilers, install air conditioning and replace water heaters for homes near Public Square, along Broadway Avenue and up toward the Bedford Reservation trailheads. What Bedford houses ask of a heating and cooling system

Bedford is an old mill and rail town, and it shows in the housing. Frame doubles, four squares and early 1900s singles sit close together near Public Square, with 1950s bungalows filling in south of Solon Road. Chimneys in those older houses were built for equipment that no longer exists, so a modern furnace usually needs a liner or a sidewall vent.

Downtown Bedford has a Historic Downtown zoning district, and the city's Historical Preservation Board reviews exterior changes to buildings there before the Building Department issues permits. A new furnace vent on a street facing wall can need that review, so the route has to be planned before the equipment is ordered. Older gas service on those blocks can also need an upgrade before a larger appliance goes in.

Bedford heating and cooling questions

If yours is not here, call and ask. We would rather answer it now than have you guess.

Ask us directly

Our house is in the historic district. Will a new furnace change the exterior?

It can, so we plan for it. High efficiency furnaces vent through PVC, and where a street facing wall is off limits we route to a side or rear elevation, or keep a lined chimney with a mid efficiency unit. We walk the outside with you before anything is ordered.

Can you put central air in a Bedford house with no ducts?

Usually yes. Older Bedford homes often have stacked closets or a back stairwell that will take a small duct chase, and where there is nothing to work with, ductless heads handle a room at a time. We measure the house, show both layouts and price them side by side.

Are you open on Sundays in Bedford?

Yes. Our regular hours cover every day of the week, 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, including Sundays. For an overnight emergency, call (216) 888-4822 and ask about the rate before the visit is booked.
